Somewhere South of Granada

Brilliant day in the hills today, high above the Lanjaron valley. On the left is Europe's most south westerly 3000m peak, the Cerro de Caballo. The pointed peak in Tajos Altos and to it's right, the upper valley of the Rio Lanjaron and Refugio Elorrieta.

I appear to be at my happiest when I am in the mountains. Some people are not as fortunate and will never get to see the beauty we did today.

I got some great images from yesterdays walk up Cerro Lucero (1779m) in the Sierra de Almijara. But, lets be honest, when you have perfect weather and stunning mountain scenery you can't fail in your photography.

We had very clear and distant views. The remaining snows of the Sierra Nevada can be seen around Veleta, hardly any on the Cerro de Caballo, which is unusual for mid-May. We could also see the Sierra de Lujar, Sierra de Gador to the east and over to the west, the Sierra Blanca and Sierra de la Nieves.

Some photos from yesterdays ascent of Cerro Alfaro. A fine day for the ascent of this unique peak in the center of the desert badlands. Took us nearly 5 hrs for this circular walk with over 550m ascent and 8km with rough and complex ground to negotiate. A superb day with distant views.

Somewhere way down there you can see the motorway winding it's way through the convoluted badlands of Almeria

Mulhacen and Alcazaba in the Sierra Nevada seen yesterday from Monte Alfaro, some 80km away across the eastern Alpujarras and Tabernas Desert. The town of Canyajar prominent

Phew. Just 458km to go then 🤣

The Alpujarra Nomad Walking Group had a lovely walk high above Trevelez in the Alpujarras to the peak of Peñabon.

The day included an amazing moment when the mountain mists start to clear and then finally clear to reveal the mountains in all their glorious beauty. This morning looking towards Peña de los Papos (2533m) above Trevelez, Sierra Nevada

Don't usually abandon a walk but it was so cold and wet in the Cumbres Verdes mountains near Granada we bailed out. Made up for it with the best fish and chips in Andalucía at La Terraza in Lanjarón

Nice walk above Lanjarón this morning with the dogs. Spring is here and the countryside is filled with the sights and smells of wild flowers.

Walk on the Majalijar ridge in the relatively unknown Sierra de Huetor just 20 mins from Granada city.

The partly cloudy conditions yesterday enhanced the atmosphere as we gazed south to the north faces of peaks of the Sierra Nevada, that almost seemed to loom out of the haze.

Good ridge walk of about 5 hours duration. Circular.

Tough walk in the hot sun today with our group up Giralda from Saleres, Lecrin Valley. Superb summit, with great views. Not the easiest of ascent, not descent, but interesting throughout nonetheless. Nice scramble to summit. My first photos taken from €119 Poco M3 phone (straight out of camera).
